Love the Way You Work...

It is quite annoying when you badly needed your hard-earned money and when you check your bank account - it's empty! Your wallet is EMPTY!

This is the scenario a few weeks ago with some of my fellow oDeskers. Transactions were having a delay after withdrawing the money from the payment system of oDesk. Usually our money will hit our banks 2-5 business days after the withdrawal, but that also depends on which bank you are using.

I am fairly new to oDesk and doesn't have any idea that this is happening before and now just a few weeks back it happened once again. Good thing, I wasn't able to experience this or maybe I am just too lucky that I did not withdraw my money at that time. Going back to those who were affected by the delay, contractors were so anxious as to the whereabouts of their hard-earned money. Worries like, what if their money will get lost somewhere and won't be able to hit their banks? Or maybe some would even have their jobs get affected because of the thought. Of course, if it also happened to me, I would also feel the same. oDesk forums were filled with eerie and pissed contractors with their complaints. On oDesk's part, they tried to trace the transactions as to where it got stuck and tried to cool them down. All is well, they have waited 2-3 weeks to get their hard-earned money.

I may say that the possible factors affecting the delay were: the constant update of the website (that leads to some minor glitches) and the heavy rains that triggered the southwest monsoon and flooding caused by typhoon Maring which greatly affects Metro Manila. With all of the rains and massive flooding, schools suspended their classes and businesses and banks also suspended their operations until further notice. This may have caused the delay in transfer since most of our bank's main branches are located in Metro Manila.

Whatever the reason is, the bottom line is ALL IS WELL - money's in their banks and now enjoying the fruits of their labor.

If you'd like to try if how is it to be an oDesker might as well visit their website - www.odesk.com.

It is More Fun in the Philippines!

Oh, how time flies so fast! I did not notice that August has come to an end. I just realized it when one of our neighbours played some Visayan Christmas songs even before the clock ticks to 12AM to September, that gave me goose bumps! And in just a matter of few days or weeks, we will already be seeing Christmas decors and hearing Christmas carols everywhere.

We, Pinoys are known to celebrate (well, not really that celebrate in the true essence of the word - but a countdown) Christmas in as early as September, it is indeed a long "celebration". So, as early as now we have to make plans for the  holidays that includes: shopping lists, reunions, parties and a lot more fun activities. I know most on our shopping list are the likes of gifts for our kinugos (godchildren), families, kiddos, special someone and friends (exchange gifts) and for ourselves, too. That also include on what are we going to prepare on the Noche Buena. For well-off families, they'd probably have a lechon, ham, fruits and other delish food on their tables.

While for the average, they'd probably have spaghetti, cake, fruit salad, chocolates - as give aways for the kids (I usually do this), loaf bread and some native kakanin.

Some will have family reunions and gatherings, some will come home especially those who are now living abroad just to be with their families in this special time of the year. Companies, too, will be very busy for the preparation of their Christmas parties and giveaways for their employees (I am missing this! ^_^). Employees on the other hand are typically excited as to when and how much are they getting on their Christmas bonuses and 13th month pays. It is indeed a great time to unwind and relax from all of our busy days and have time for our families and friends.

But even without all of these and the presents, what matters most is that we are celebrating it with our loved ones - either we have a food on our table or none, that we are united and misunderstandings are being patched up - this is the true essence of Christmas - LOVE. Thus, the song "Give Love on Christmas Day" by Michael Jackson. :)

With the way we celebrate Christmas, it is indeed MORE FUN IN THE PHILIPPINES! :)
